The roles we are offering take the lead from an engineering perspective on designing and delivering new customer facing projects. The systems architect plays a key part in the sales phase by proposing candidate solutions that match the user’s vision of the system.
These roles offer excellent opportunities to work with business and technology development teams, external COTS suppliers and business partners.
Key Responsibility Areas
Proposing and evaluating alternative technical approaches to delivering communications systems and optimising selections based on performance, cost, timescale criteria
Support the sales team in customer and supplier discussions globally as required
Architecting (and in some cases building) the technology for competitions and user trials
Work with users, sponsors, and development teams to explore alternative architectural paradigms
Produce candidate system architectures and derive requirements at all system levels
Work with Engineering Managers to estimate the cost of solutions.
Perform cost benefit analysis of system component development verses COTS procurement.
Designing and supporting delivery of customer and company funded solutions.
Liaising widely within Technology to identify the opportunities from and constraints of, existing systems, plus the best integration approaches
Provide Technology push into business to ensure Selex Communications is maximising the full potential of both our systems and products.
Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge
University degree in a technical discipline – essential
Experience of either all-IP network systems, mobile wireless communications, ECM systems, avioincs communications or IFF systems – essential
Experience of military communications networks including a thorough understanding of interoperability, scenarios and customer needs is desireable
A good understanding of defence communications industries is essential
Knowledge of communications architecture[s] and principles is essential
Knowledge of emerging technologies is essential
Experience of full life cycle for product and system development – concept through to disposal. Is essential
Experience in new technology development definition and deployment is essential (typically multi million pound/euro developments)
Familiarity with commercial communication products and trends
Experience of dealing with customers at a senior technical level is essential
Experience of estimating costs is essential
Product safety, legislation is desirable
