The Spaceship Company is dedicated to that goal by building the first fleet of spaceflight systems developed for routine, scheduled flight operations that exceed our customers’ requirements. TSC’s first customer is Virgin Galactic ( which is on track to become the world’s first private “spaceline”.

Main Purpose of the Role

TSC is seeking a talented and motivated Avionics Software Engineer to join our Avionics team. The ideal candidate will have at least 4 years of experience working with avionics flight software on certified or experimental aircraft or spacecraft. The Avionics Software Engineer will develop software for the SpaceshipTwo and WhiteKnightTwo avionics system as well as for the flight simulator. Responsibilities:


  • Develop avionics flight software
  • Develop simulator software
  • Troubleshoot and debug avionics and simulator software
  • Improve and optimize Simulink system performance
  • Improve interfaces between simulation systems, hardware, and associated databases
  • Develop automated system-level verification and validation tests using the simulation systems
  • Develop interfaces for various simulation users
  • Bachelor’s of Science degree from an accredited institution, with a concentration in a relevant technical engineering discipline
  • Experience with software design and development
  • Experience with requirements gathering and development
  • Strong proficiency with C++ programming
  • Strong knowledge in Simulink code generation
  • Strong knowledge of Simulink best-practices.
  • Experience with MATLAB
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and problem-solving skills
  • Strong team player
  • Proficient with discrete and analog I/O interfaces
  • Excellent computer skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience with the design of flight vehicles or vehicle systems to a set of requirements or standards such as CFR 14, Part 400, Part 23 and 25, military or NASA are highly desired
  • Experience with software revision control systems (e.g. Subversion, GIT, etc.)
  • Experience with software issue tracking tools (e.g. JIRA, FobBugz, Bugzilla, etc.)
