Serves as Project Architect in the Engineering Management Branch (FDE). Responsible for the overall design, operation, analysis, maintenance, and upgrade of facility architectural systems. Facility projects include Construction of Facilities (CoF) and Non-CoF, with a high level of complexity and a multi-million dollar annual budget. These are critical projects that are essential to the success of the various research programs, as well as, ensuring the health and safety of employees at GRC.
This is a bargaining unit position (i.e., covered under labor/management agreement).

At the GS-11 grade level the incumbent is responsible for the development of architectural designs for a range of project sizes and types. Responsible for assisting in the preparation of design packages (drawings and specifications) for building renovations and repairs utilizing AutoCAD and REVIT drafting software. Shall possess working knowledge of architectural methods, techniques, design standards, building codes and construction techniques.
Also responsible for review, editing and creation of technical project specifications in accordance with industry best-practices and project requirements.
At the GS-12 grade level the incumbent serves as the senior design architect for facilities or structures that utilize new technology and capable of applying state-of-the-art or novel solutions to unique and challenging design requirements.
The incumbent also serves as the consulting architect for design work performed by Architect and Engineering contractors. This includes providing technical guidance and advice to design contractors regarding new or complex aspects of assignments, ensuring conformance with design standards and best-practices, resolving controversial problems, reviewing plans and specifications for technical adequacy and assisting with evaluation of design contractor cost estimates and proposals.
