Meggitt is a global engineering group specializing in extreme environment products and smart sub-systems for aerospace, defense and energy markets. We employ over 11,000 people across manufacturing facilities in Asia, Europe, North America, with regional bases in India and the Middle East.
Meggitt Polymers & Composites (MPC) is seeking a head of communications to establish its first professional communications role. This will encompass internal and external audiences.
The position represents an outstanding opportunity for an energetic hands-on individual looking for the opportunity to make his or her mark in a transatlantic, mostly aerospace, business with outstanding growth prospects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The ability to arrive at, phrase and transmit messages to diverse audiences is intrinsic to any communications role. These capabilities would be deployed on media releases and other press relations tools; recruitment postings and advertising; content for a new intranet, website and external digital marketing; printed product marketing collateral; internal announcements; and speeches and presentations. For editorial overflow or specialist tasks, the incumbent would be able to thoroughly investigate, define and present value propositions to ensure external journalists and copywriters, integrating external graphic designers and photographers where needed, to ensure they are successful quickly and economically. This could, for example, include the production of creative content from tradeshow graphic panels and support material to advertising.
In addition to establishing highly professional marketing content for the division’s three ‘value streams’ – fuel systems and containment, advanced composites and polymer solutions – the postholder must support leadership teams, promoting divisional and value stream strategy internally, maintaining momentum by celebrating achievements at all levels from market and technology success stories to progress on the Meggitt group’s operating system – the Meggitt Production System. This will enable the postholder to stimulate and reinforce an identity for the significantly expanded business which includes facilities in the UK, US and Mexico. The new intranet being launched by Meggitt Polymers & Composites’ parent, Meggitt PLC will be an important channel. In association with news flow opportunities offered by it, the postholder will be required to highlight and encourage use of features such as community and project sites to boost collaboration and communication across the division and the wider Meggitt group. However, significant numbers of employees who do not have computers must be included in internal communications plans and activities.
The incumbent will naturally be required to provide and cost an annual plan to support the division’s value stream strategies and internal communications requirements and be flexible enough to adapt that plan to changing demands.
He or she will be required to support the group’s graphic visual identity by working closely with the group’s Global Brand Manager and develop an effective working relationship with the Group’s Head of Communications (GHoC) whose brief is to ensure that communications throughout the group are executed to a high professional standard and are aligned with the corporate narrative. The incumbent would be required to support the GHoC during media management in any crisis situation.
